Until it comes...

It is taking a while, but spring is coming.

In the meantime, hoodies help tide us over. It's coming!!

Shopping

This Sunday we did more than our usual shopping. In addition to groceries we also went to the mall and Goodwill.

Bakers is getting pretty used to seeing us on Sunday after church. In fact, one of our regular cashiers asks us how church was... :D They will not soon forget us if every week Benjamin tours John and Rosie in this getup, fetching items off the list.

Rosie had some money to spend at Claire's as a reward for some hard work. Dad called me from a different part of the mall to ask if I knew where to find anything in Claire's that was in her budget, which Leah and I took as a summons to help Rosie shop. Nothing quite like letting a fancy Nancy loose in Claire's, with money... As always, we had to try on the glasses. I think I need to practice this whole self portrait thing, sorry Leah!!

Goodwill never fails to have some intriguing item. Thank goodness I don't have money to bring them all home.

Although, this would have been a total keeper, if I could have just thought of something to wear it to...

This is not from shopping, but Timothy and John were cleaning the porch the other day when Timothy told me I had to come take a picture of John, he was sweeping and it was sooo cute! It was...

Peace, y'all!! Have a great day!

Typical

Once again, my camera has an eclectic collection of pictures saved on it, all of which are blog worthy but have nothing to do with each other. This situation begs for a Typical post, so, without further adieu, please enjoy this random sampling of typical life.

I took this picture a few weeks back. I had just finished a major test, spent a very fun afternoon with a friend, and was taking the scenic route home (on purpose for once). When I came around the corner and saw the clouds, the road, the grass, it felt just too beautiful to miss.

It snowed this morning, but this week we have had some completely lovely weather. It was so nice, I took my lesson planning outside for an afternoon. Ah, sunshine!!

While I was lesson planning, Benjamin and John were working on a trench. Please note the Bosch box in the foreground that was blaring Footloose. Although you can't really tell in this picture, John was dancing in the trench. Priceless...

Trina and John, the amazing acrobats!

Trina and John, the exhausted acrobats...

This one is for Mom. It was so gorgeous, I had to put it on the windowsill so I could see it all the time. Thank you again for that AWESOME present!!

Two recent school projects which required supplies we did not have on hand meant extra crayons, construction paper, and more fun for the colorers. There are definite perks to having a sister studying elementary ed, especially one who has a thing for school/office supplies.

Becca decided to curl her hair. It took most of the afternoon and most unfortunately, I was on a walk when she finished and did not get any pictures of it! Just imagine the already beautiful Becca and her beautiful hair, and then, just make it curly. :D

So, the dryer motor started to die. For a while it worked great, all I had to do was spin the drum while I pushed the start button to make it go. Then, one day I pushed the button and spun the drum, and nothing happened. I called Dad in to look and he tried. Nothing happened. Benjamin immediately went to work, trying to find a new motor and within 48 hours, they not only had a new motor, but had it installed and the dryer working again. Without even spinning the drum!! Being someone with the mechanical abilities of a banana slug, this seems nothing short of a miracle. Once again, thank you guys!!

Dad read that green tea bags can help dark circles under eyes. Rosie was the experiment. This is the picture. So far, it seems to have worked. We will keep you posted.

The other day we had our first real rainstorm of the season. At first I told the kids to come inside, but we could not stand it and all went out and danced in the rain. It was lovely. When the rain stopped we decided to keep dancing, inside. That is what we were doing when our dear friend Katie called to let us know we were in a tornado warning, as in someone saw one near us. I guess it pays to keep listening to the radio while there is severe weather, instead of cranking up Footloose and dancing away. I can only imagine what the headlines would have been like if we had been sucked up. The good news, the tornado missed us and I don't think ended up doing any damage. Thank you Lord for your protection, and for times to dance, rain or no rain.

Rosie's birthday

Rosie's birthday was last Thursday, but it took several days to celebrate it. She was gone over her birthday lunch, so we had birthday food two days in a row.

She got all seven candles in one fell swoop. I guess that means no new boyfriends this year, what a shame...

Dad's gift to Rosie was going to the salon and getting her hair and nails done. From what I heard, she was in heaven.

The salon owners were inspired to create a little girls birthday package, they had just as much fun with Rosie as she had!

Beautiful toes...

I think the expression on Rosie's face here is priceless.

Getting the beautiful fingernails done. They were purple with lovely sparklies.

The curls!!

Grandpa Ron's present was a pizza party. Last night everyone was home, so we finished off Rosie's birthday with pizza compliments of Grandpa.

This is "Raise up your pizza to show Grandpa just how much we love it!!" Note for Grandpa: there was more pizza than is in this picture, it was just still on the counter...
Happy birthday, Rosie!! We are so glad you are a part of our family. Without you, my life would not be the same at all.<3

The New Washer

When my parents bought a new washer several years ago, my Grandpa insisted on buying the extended warranty for it. This past month our washer started making a noise like an airplane taking off and when the repair guy came, he said it was going to be too expensive to fix. However, thanks to Grandpa, the warranty company replaced it with a brand new washer. :D

The delivery guys were kind enough to bring it all the way into the laundry room (no small feat, considering the fact that they had to climb over the bathtub in the old bathroom). After that, we were on our own.

No problem! Like pros the kids not only hauled the old one out, they even got it down the stairs into the basement! It is not entirely dead, and we hope to use it with the milk sink once it is installed in the basement. Sorry about the poor quality of this picture. It is hard to get good pictures of people who are moving with a washing machine in your direction...

Benjamin and Timothy figured all this out in no time. I guess it is not as hard as it looks...

Now for the fun part, how on earth do we run this thing? I am still in awe of how smart it is and all the stuff it can do! So many options and it even sings a little song when it is done!

The coolest thing about the new washer has to be its clear plastic front. Now we can see the clothes being washed, rinsed and spun! I remember watching the laundry in the old top loader we had growing up, but this is a whole different perspective. Very cool. Thank you, Grandpa, for making sure our washer would be taken care of!

Early Spring in Nebraska

With the onset of warmer weather I have been feverishly working on school, trying to finish so I can spend as much time outside as possible when it is really nice. The other day I was working away on a lesson plan when Dad came in and said I had to come out, it was just too nice to be sitting inside. I decided he was right and went out for a stroll. Here are a few pictures of Nebraska, our corner specifically, in mid-March.

Dad took this picture of John, rediscovering the sand pile. One advantage to having everything covered with snow for months is finding what was buried after it melts. Assuming whatever was buried is not susceptible to water damage that is.

Working in the sun, soaking up every precious ultra-violet ray...

Of course, spring means this too. Please pardon our floors for the next month or two. This stuff is magnetically attracted to children and the inside of houses...

Melting snow, shrinking woodpile, hints of green... its coming!
This was supposed to be a cool picture of the pussy willows framing the barns. Just in case you were wondering what it was.

Bare feet and flowers sprouting. Yes, this is my favorite time of year!

One of the best parts about the spring is the way the sky starts to look alive again after being a cold light blue all winter. It won't be long before all the brown in this picture is green and growing. Well minus the barn and the fence of course, seeing as we don't live in Seattle. :)

I stepped out the other night to get some laundry off the line and saw this. Some smart little bird took his girl on the ultimate date... Somewhere quiet with an awesome view!

100th Post!

So, I was going to post on our 6 month anniversary and celebrate, but then I realized I missed it... by a month. Embarrassing. Instead of waiting for a whole year to roll around, we decided to have a celebratory post for the 100th post. So, here we are! Yippeee!! As it turns out, this post also happened to land on a very special day, Rosie's 7th birthday which somehow seems a fitting time to celebrate Life With Rosie. From what I have read, on milestone celebration posts most blog authors ask their readers to sound off, so here goes.

If you happen to be a stalker, a regular commenter, or somewhere in between, now is your chance to tell all of us here at Life With Rosie what you think. Post a comment and tell us what country or state you hail from and which one of us blog characters is your favorite! Ready, set, go!!
(Okay, maybe instead of picking favorites, how about saying what color socks you are wearing. Just so no one gets too many votes and we have to bang their head back to size you know...).

In honor of our 99 awesome posts:

Some days wake up and beg, "Please, make me a crazy hair day!!" Always say yes...

Nickersons!!

Lindy and Joe came to visit the early part of this week. What fun!! The kids had a blast and got their school work done in record time all three mornings.

Joe and Lindy are honorary adopted Hippses. In fact, we gave them their own last name, Nickersnipps...

Hillary, this picture is for you. If you ever find another copy of this book, please get it for me. Every young girl should read it!

With the arrival of warmer weather the outside projects have all started back up with gusto. The mud makes everything all that more interesting. Ever pushed a full wheelbarrow through 6 inches of warm mud? Talk about drifting...

Joe and Lindy were on spring break, so they helped the other kids with their school. I know Rosie greatly appreciated having someone to do all her school with, thank you Lindy!

John showing Joe that he knows all his letters. Joe recalled how he had held John when he was just a baby. They grow up fast!

Timothy and Joe made these aircraft from scraps out in the shop. They are ingenious! Yes, that is exactly how they asked to be described. You can't see it in this picture but the helicopter was even outfitted with artillery! Pretty cool, boys.

Thank you so much for coming, Lindy and Joe! The house will seem empty without you...

Adventure

Life is an adventure, and adventure is what you make it. Sometimes adventure comes knocking...

...and sometimes it comes eating your chickens. In this case, when you set a trap for it, you just might catch it. Setting a trap for adventure can be dangerous though, you might catch more than you bargained for. No, Timothy did not kill the skunk with the rake, but yes, it is dead and no, it did not spray them.

Some day I am going to take my passport on some real adventures, but this weekend it went on a short one. I had to take a state test for my teaching license that I had read required two forms of photo ID. Not wanting to be rejected from the testing center for lack of ID, I brought my passport along. As it turned out, the double ID thing is only the rule if you are in Texas and have a speeding ticket, or something like that. I decided to use my passport as my form of identification anyway because, after all, everyone else was using driver's licenses and the passport needed some fresh air.

All of life's adventures are a gift from God and for me they stem from following Him, which is essentially the greatest adventure of all. Here's to getting the most out of every adventure He brings!
