Spring flowers

Spring is one of my favorite times of year. I love it when the flowers start to bloom. I went outside and got some pictures of some of my favorite flowers. :D

I love this tree and I love this picture it worked out just how I wanted it to.

I held them in my hand. (at least I tried to) :D

The lilacs did not bloom last year but they are working on it this year. They are one of my favorite flowers.

The sunset is so beautiful all the time. God is so amazing. Who else can tell the sun to be so beautiful every night at a same time? :D

These are some of my favorite flowers and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. :D

A picnic and the home school skating party

A few weeks ago we were invited to a home school skating party hosted by the Stangl family.

Before we went to the skating rink we had a picnic. We picked up Emily and headed out to find the mother of all picnic spots. :D

I got to sit next to John on the way down to Omaha. He makes a wonderful traveling buddy! :D

Me and Emily being funny. We were trying to make a good face but Emily said she was going to make a funny face so why should I not make one?

We raced to the skating rink and got there just in time. There were a lot of small kids there that were amazing at skating. it was almost scary. :D

Leah and Betsy Grady were helping a lot of little kids that were not as amazing as others get around the rink. In this picture they are helping Rosie get around the rink. Rosie is getting better all the time. :D

Thank you Stangls for the great time we had and we all enjoyed ourselves greatly.

Birthday at the Nursing Home

One of Rosie's birthday wishes was to make cupcakes and go celebrate with the residents at the local nursing home. We all agreed that it was a great idea and set a day.

In the morning we made cupcakes. A lot of cupcakes. :)

John and Rosie were quite helpful and took care of the extra batter in the first batch.

Second batch? Chocolate!

They helped clean up after that one too.

As did Timo and Becca.

And me. We may have had a bit too much fun!

The first batch is out, which means...

Frosting!

No this is only 2/3 of the cupcakes we made. As I said, we made a lot. :)

Next, clean up and get ready to go.

Some of the Wattermanns joined us for the occasion. Thank you all for coming along.

The kids played several rounds of 'Go Fish' with this lady, and she won every time! Taught those young whippersnappers a thing or two! :)

The entertainment for the afternoon was provided by a local band. They played quite a few old gospel songs, and were very good.

They heard we were there for Rosie's birthday, so they had her come up and sang 'Happy Birthday' to her as well.

The band leader was delighted to have so many kids in the audience, and he had them come up and join him in a couple songs.

In the end, Rosie topped off the day by coming up and singing the last song 'I'll Fly Away' with the band.

They were all quite taken with her and said she could come back and sing with them any time.

Afterwards the Wattermanns had to go, and we left shortly afterwards. We just had one small dilemma, what are we going to do with some 40 left over cupcakes? We decided to go all over town, and we gave a cupcake and some joy to everyone we met; until we only had a few cupcakes left and we couldn't find anyone who had not had one already. We had a splendid time!

I vote we do that for everyone's birthday! :)

Skirt Remodel

The other day we came across a bunch of skirts in my old clothes. They were in good shape, but were way too skinny for me and way too long for Becca. Then we had a great idea. Why not cut them off?

So that evening we set up the ironing board and got out the scissors.

We were already having a great time when someone discovered that the cut-off pieces were a lot of fun and could be used in many guises. For instance, you could be the man in pink.

Or Caesar.

Or even a crazy ninja. :)

Planting Potatoes

It is hard to believe that it is that time of year already, but it is, and last week we planted the potatoes.

Potato planting is a big job and has a lot of steps

First the seed potatoes need to be cut into pieces with 2-3 eyes each

Timo and Becca worked quite diligently at this for half the day

After a couple hours the potato choppers may go a little crazy :)

Meanwhile, Dad and Benjamin were busy inventing this. An attachment to the rototiller that digs furrows behind it. Brilliant!

"Now how do we use it?"

The whole operation looks like this.

Once you have furrows and cut potatoes, the only thing left is to put them together and cover them up.

This was cheerfully done by Benjamin, Timo, and Becca.

Today is Rosie's 8th birthday.

A few random things about Rosie

• She can read as well as I can
• She loves to write
• She is a great encourager

• She is THE drama queen

Spring (for real this time)

Spring is my favorite time of year, and after a few false starts it is finally here!

The way you can always tell that spring is really here. The tulips start growing.

The trees all start budding: the pussy willow tree

And the maples along the driveway too.

Who knew maple trees blossomed?

Time for playing outside!
