Harvesting Potatoes

Y'all may recall, this spring we planted potatoes. They sprouted, grew into beautiful plants, and then withered and died... We cared for them, hoed around them, and a few weeks ago we dug them up...

You never know with potatoes... What is going on underneath? Are they producing any potatoes?
This year we were so blessed! Underneath the surface we found a beautiful crop of nice, big potatoes!

The harvesting process went like this: Benjamin drove the tractor down the rows...

...Pulling the plow as Timothy guided it and kept the shovel pushed deep into the ground.

The plow turned the earth out of the rows, and exposed all the potatoes.

Guiding the plow looked like so much fun I had to try it myself...

It was harder than it looked! But it really was a lot of fun!

Once all the potatoes were dug up, all that was left was to gather them up and store them somewhere.

Rosie and John; two willing helpers. :-)

Once all their buckets were full, the crew loaded them on the bale fork and drove them down to the barn. There they made a nice spot to store the crop as we slowly eat it up!

Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought this looked fun! :-)

"Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps."
