The attic roof has needed fixing for a long time. Dad and Michael fixed the north side at least ten years ago, and last week we decided it was high time we fixed the south side.
Dad got Benjamin and Timo started tearing the old roof off.
A stereo for listening to music, a wagon to dump the debris on, and they were ready to go.

They got right to it and had the roof torn off in no time.

That made Benjamin feel pretty amazing...

Not to be outdone. :)

Tada! Look at us!

Kicking off the loose scrap.

Once it was cleared off Dad stepped in to do the tricky parts; Cutting the sheeting to fit and putting in the step shingles.

Even John was out helping. (is he cute or what?)

Benjamin and his favorite tool, the nail gun. :)

The day was winding down, with only shingles left to put on

Dad and Benjamin worked on it after supper even to have it finished before the day was done.
And here it is! The beautiful finished roof. Great job guys!
Nice! It looks awesome! Great job guys! :D
ReplyDeleteWow! Can't wait to see it in person! Glad I voted for strip it and redo it...;)
ReplyDeleteFixing things around the house is never a drag when you do it with your family. It’s a good idea to make the kids help with the roof repairs so that when they grow up, they’ll know how to do these kinds of things by themselves. Great job with the roof, guys!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, look out below! Removing those loose scraps looks easier with you guys teaming up to get the job done! LOL! I’m pretty sure that area was cleaned up in seconds. =) No wonder the outcome was impressive. Great work, everyone!
ReplyDeleteBeing sturdy for ten years wasn’t bad at all! You guys sure look like great roofers, and I bet this project didn’t even make you sweat, hehe. You had fun as well, right? I like the fact that you had background music while at this. That can definitely make the work more enjoyable. Just don’t dance while on the roof, ok. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to bond with your family! Looks like you guys really enjoy fixing your roof, huh? You know, working on a roof is apparently dangerous, and safety should be your #1 priority. I’m glad that you finished it successfully and nobody got hurt during the repair. Great job, guys!
ReplyDeleteFixing the roof is backbreaking work, but when accompanied by family members, the whole process becomes a fun activity. The fact that everyone made an effort to help made the work easier enabling you to finish earlier. Now, you have a new roof and a memorable experience with your whole family.

It's so nice that you guys turned a simple home repair into a remarkable family activity. Those rooftop photos are pretty quirky. Haha. Ahh, yeah, you guys did a great job. The roof looks new. =)
ReplyDeleteJohn is totally adorable! It’s a good thing that he doesn’t have fear of heights, and he did manage to smile on top of the roof. Hehe. They did not only repair the roof, but they also had a great boys’ bonding. That newly installed shingles will surely last for 10 or more years.
ReplyDeleteIt’s quite good that all of you guys had fun in fixing the roof and had a great time bonding with the whole family. The roof looks neat with the final outcome. It really looks like you had wonderful time!

Fixing this roof had been a good family bonding activity, and it’s so nice to see your family united to achieve a common goal ! Doing tasks can be easily achieved if everyone is cooperating and doing their responsibilities well. With cooperative family members like yours, it is really possible to successfully finish a stunning roof like this.

I am a bit concerned about the north side of the roof. The south side’s roofing section is new and beautiful, but how about the north section? Have you tried inspecting it? Ten years might have already done some damage on your north side roof. I think installing a new set of shingles for the north side of the roof will be another bonding moment for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was really high time that you changed your roofing. The south side looked old, weak, and worn-off already, but now, it looks sturdy and beautiful! Noreen is right, I think you should also check the north side of your roof. It might be needing some repairs by now as well.
